Dementia Beyond Drugs-Interview on The Ageless Woman Show

Recent evidence shows that medications used for people with dementia are responsible for a number of serious side effects–even increased mortality–yet their use continues to rise in all living environments.

As part of The Ageless Woman Teleseminar Program held weekly at no charge, I will be interviewing Dr. Allen Power, author of Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of Care On Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 6 pm Eastern Time.

Dr. Power will explain why we need to radically re-frame our view of dementia and the ways in which we provide care. His new book outlines a pathway for continued engagement, growth and well-being throughout one’s life with dementia.

You’ll be able to listen to the interview by telephone or by webcast on the computer, saving any long distance charges.

Register even if you are not able to attend at the assigned time as you will receive the audio replay after the program is completed.

Dr. Allen Power is an internist, geriatrician and an international expert in transformational models of nursing home care.

His new book, Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of Care takes a radical new look at America’s most dreaded diagnosis, to find new opportunities for life, growth and hope.

I launched The Ageless Woman Teleseminar Program with show topics focusing on issues of concern to boomer women.

With Alzheimer’s Disease becoming more and more common, there are many women who are faced with the responsibility of managing the care of their parents. Many of the shows deal with ways of coping with this situation. Other shows educate the listeners on new brain research and ways that we can take better care of our body and brains.

Another concern for boomer women is taking time to continue to pursue their own interests-whether that is a business or some other personal passion. It is easy to put the needs of everyone else first and just forget about what is important to you as an individual.

Clutter or Precious Memories? Interview with Cynthia Alexander

Cynthia Alexander, the Declutter Queen was my special guest this week on The Ageless Woman Teleseminar Program! One Saturday, several years ago, Cynthia Alexander had a declutter encounter of the first kind. Her daughter arrived at her door with boxes and plastic tubs in hand. That was the first time she was aware that all the stuff that she had collected was actually an embarrassment to her children. What she claimed as precious memories, her children deemed clutter.

Rising to the challenge, Cynthia worked to develop a system that she now teaches to clients around the world

Step, by step, she helps people develop a plan that is a custom fit for them.

“If they are your precious memories, then why are they hiding under your bed?” is one of her favorite replies.

Sometimes life hands us challenges in the form of aging parents with health concerns that require a lifestyle change.

Do you need a way to clear the clutter and then organize for your parents or yourself?

What you can expect to learn from this interview:

  • Create an actual plan of action before you start the task
  • Implement the plan in a way that does not upset your family
  • Work together with the resources you have to organize and clean
  • Put a program in place so the stuff does not return.

Come join me via audio for this enlightening interview with Cynthia Alexander!

Stop Counting the Gray and Start Counting the Green!

Shelly Lisoskie

Shelly Lisoskie

Leader and Strategic Thinker Shelly Lisoskie is my guest on The Ageless Woman Program Wednesday!

In order for women to not lose sight of their purpose as they move through their 40’s and beyond, they have to know what their purpose is.

In this interview with Shelly Lisoskie you can expect to discover how to:

~ FInd your purpose if you’ve lost sight of it
~ Keep yourself centered in order to not get pulled and swayed by outside forces
~ Manage the duality of corporate life and personal business life

Shelly Lisoskie started her career as a foreign language teacher and athletic coach. With a spit-fire mind, it’s not surprising that Shelly jumped into personal computing technology during Apple and Microsoft’s early days and became a technology trainer.

She left the public schools and became an entrepreneur. She and her partners at CompuShare published “Your Apple IIGS Guide” in 1989 to rave reviews by Apple II magazine, and went on to write and publish a number of Mac and PC related technology manuals.

Shelly and her husband, Pete Lisoskie, went on to form The Business Toolbox to help small businesses use technology to improve customer relations management.

In 1994 they wrote and published “Customers For Keeps: The Network System To Smash Your Profit Barrier”. Their book received high praise from sales and marketing gurus Jay Conrad Levinson, Bill Bethel, and Rick Barrera to name a few.

Shelly returned to the world of education in 1996. Her mastery of technology and personally networking were instrumental in her career. She has had the unusual opportunity to teach pre-school through college, has run high school and college campuses, and has been responsible for large IT and vocational programs from the North Shore of O’ahu to the Pacific NW.

She is a resourceful manager and strategic thinker who delivers consistent outcomes by bringing diverse elements and viewpoints together to focus on mutual benefits.

Shelly believes true leaders strive to create positive, productive work environments where people can grow to achieve their full potential. Her mantra is “lead people, manage numbers” and her personal goal is to teach managers to become great leaders.

Join us to learn from Shelly’s experience and receive some valuable insight into living your purpose!

The call is Wednesday, July 14 at 3 pm PT/6 pm ET.
Sign up even if you can not attend. You will be able to hear a replay of the call.

Wonderful conversation with Elizabeth Hallett this week!

This week’s show featured Elder Care Specialist, Elizabeth Hallett: The Emotional Effects of Loss.

When we have a loved one who has developed Alzheimer’s Disease, there are difficult adjustments to make as we see the person we knew disappearing.
