Audio: Rescue Dogs to OUR Rescue!
Dale Anderson and I came together to invite dog lovers to a teleconference today.
You’ll love hearing the stories that were shared during the call.
How dogs who were in danger of losing their lives came into the lives of families and ended up being a huge blessing in many different ways.
Therapy dogs do wonderful things at Alzheimer’s Care Centers as well as in other retirement communities. There is a language of dog connection that is not lost even when Alzheimer’s Disease has advanced to the point of no verbalization.
It’s not too late to get to hear the stories. Register here and the audio will be delivered to you immediately.
As entrepreneurs, we often work alone. When we rescue a dog from the humane society, we can actually be doing even more for ourselves.
Loving your dog back to happiness can be very fulfilling for the owner!
Nothing can be as wonderful as having a dog at your side.
Particularly when you work at home, it is such a nice feeling to know there is a loving being near you as you work alone at your desk! There are all kind of statistics showing how beneficial pets can be for your health.
If you have had a great experience, add your story as a comment on this blog post.

Elder Care Specialist on The Ageless Woman Radio this Week!
The Ageless Woman Radio Show airs on Wednesday, July 7 at 3 pm Pacific time/6 pm Eastern time. http://www.suzanneholman.com/agelessradio
This week’s show features Elder Care Specialist, Elizabeth Hallett: The Emotional Effects of Loss.
When we have a loved one who has developed Alzheimer’s Disease, there are difficult adjustments to make as we see the person we knew disappearing.
Learning to accept this different person who is experiencing Alzheimer’s effects can be a challenging process.
Expect to learn on this call what spiritual pain is and how to diagnose that in the Alzheimer’s patient as well as in you, the family member.
Elizabeth Hallett is a Family Care Consultant, Elder Care Specialist and Certified Lay Chaplain who provides caregiver support and advocacy in a gentle and supportive way. She believes in making smart choices ahead of time to avoid crisis whenever possible. She works with caregivers and care receivers alike. Her focus is on:
- Recognizing change and how to move through it
- Creating Plan B in advance!
- Placement assistance
- Spiritual care and addressing emotional pain
- End of life support
- Family mediation.
Her passion is working with family caregivers as they juggle their own busy lives with that of a loved one dealing with eldercare issues or memory loss.
As the former Director of the Ashland Community Hospital (ACH) Memory Care Center, she is sensitive to family dynamics and is an experienced family educator for Alzheimer’s-type dementias, stroke and Parkinson’s.
She now coordinates Memory Works, a community nonprofit, and a bi-monthly support group in Ashland, Oregon. Private consultations take place through teleconferencing or in person. Her website is at www.ElizabethHallet.com
Elizabeth says:
“The work I do is family-centered and based on my experiences helping families with senior care issues over the last ten years. This work is an honor and a spiritual calling for me.”

The Ageless Woman Radio Show topics generally focus on issues of concern to boomer women.
With Alzheimer’s Disease becoming more and more common, there are many women who are faced with the responsibility of managing the care of their parents. Many of the shows deal with ways of coping with this situation. Other shows educate the listeners on new brain research and ways that we can take better care of our body and brains.
Another concern for boomer women is taking time to continue to pursue their own interests-whether that is a business or some other personal passion. It is easy to put the needs of everyone else first and just forget about what is important to you as an individual.
Fabulous June Blog Challenge With Jeanette Cates!
Jeanette Cates
30 blog posts in 30 days! I made it and received my little gold trophy icon by my name.
I wondered if I would be able to follow through with this.
In the past, I had started a challenge and then would feel overwhelmed and not complete the posts.
This time, I was determined. For one reason, I really wanted to get my writing juices flowing. I have so much to say about caring for yourself when you have a parent with Alzheimer’s. I love sharing new research to support us in having a healthier brain. Women deserve to have a life with gusto, being ageless rather than aging into a lackluster life. I am enjoying creating a weekly Ageless Woman Radio Show and sharing information about the calls and offering the audios afterward for all to enjoy…
I found it to be an inspiring experience, and loved creating each little writing piece and particularly enjoyed adding images. All my blog posts go to Twitter and then to Facebook. I always went to Facebook for each post to make certain that the image would show up with the status update.
Jeanette helped us all form a community on a membership site and we all posted with a hash tag of #blog30. I used TweetChat.com so that the hash tag would automatically go with the post and I was able to see all the other posts that were being made by others in the group.
I”ve been blogging for 10 years now…way before it was a trend and the blogs were more private.
These June writings were the first time I’ve ever consistently blogged everyday for a whole month. I intend to keep the momentum with several posts a week.
Thanks, Jeanette!

Dale Anderson and Suzanne Holman came together to create a teleseminar to discuss the great gift that a rescue dog can be.
Both Suzanne and Dale have had experiences demonstrating just how meaningful that canine relationship can be!
This was a great time of discussion and sharing with all of the participants on the call.

Freedom Comes From Being Real
For most dogs, the 4th of July is one of the most unfavorite days of the year!
The loud crackles and booms of fireworks is hard on their delicate ears and scares the begeebies out of them.
Shaiming, my six-year old ShihTzu I rescued from the Humane Society in April wasn’t terribly excited about modeling his cool hat. I had to get him this hat. I had one in a larger size for my Australian Shepherd years ago. Found the hats at a craft fair, sold by people who lived in Northern Arizona. I had to see if I could get one for Shaiming. Hats are made for AZ shade and you can even wet the terry lining to cool down the dog! You can check out the hats at their website:
http://www.k9koolhats.com/ They mail the hats for a very low shipping charge.
Today, Richard Maraj, lead minister of Unity of Phoenix Church, talked about Radical Honesty, based on the book by Brad Blanton.
It was a perfect topic for today because true honesty with others and with ourselves is the ultimate freedom!
Honesty was a perfect topic for the 4th of July, the day we Americans celebrate our freedom.
Think about it for a minute… Have you ever told a lie?
Then, you were bound to what you said and had to work hard to make everything else you said be in congruence with the untruth you told. EXHAUSTING!
But maybe you’ve never told a lie…
Did you ever hear yourself saying something like…
Oh, it was just a “little white lie…”
“I bent the truth a bit…”
“It was mostly the truth…”
I just fibbed a little…”
Although honesty is the wisest, it’s not the easiest.
So what should we do?
1. Reveal the facts - how are we deceiving ourselves? When we release the energy we use to deceive ourselves, we release that energy that attracts good to us.
2. Make a list of things withheld from others. Acknowledge to yourself and perhaps to others
involved that you want to make things right.
3. Express your current feelings and thoughts. Radical honesty gets us to the root of who we are.
It gets to love, to our essence, and to Spirit.
As I think back to the 4th of July, 2010, I’ll remember “honesty” - “being real” - “living full out as me”
Where in your life can you feel more freedom by being more honest?
If you are involved in the responsibility of the care of others, whether Alzheimer’s Disease or some other ailment, there are probably times that you could be more honest in expressing your need for support from others.
And I don’t just mean to others… Honesty with ourselves can be the toughest of all.
Take time to listen to yourself. Are you being true to you? Are you allowing guilt to rule your life and are not listening to your own heart?
No legacy is so rich as honesty” [William Shakespeare All's Well That Ends Well]
